Expressing Thanks: It Doesn't Have to Be a Gratitude Journal

Welcome back to the Timberland Blog. This month, with the Thanksgiving holiday coming up, we are focusing on gratitude, a fitting topic we think. We’ve all heard about keeping a gratitude journal or posting daily about what you are thankful for, and they are awesome ways to remind ourselves and others what we’re grateful for in our lives. However, there are a lot more ways to focus on thanks. Read on for some other ways to express gratitude to family, friends, members of our apartment community, and citizens of Savannah, GA.

Share Something You Are Grateful For with Your Partner, Spouse, or Family

At the end of Thanksgiving day, perhaps around the dinner table, share what you liked about  your day, what you learned, and what you are thankful for. It’s a great way to connect, and to acknowledge the good that happens every day.

Pay it forward.

During the holidays, we hear and read of grand gestures of making a difference for others and often think that we wish we could do something like that. Instead of regretting what you can’t do, scale it down and pay it forward in simple ways as you’re out and about. This 60 selfless ways to pay it forward list is a great place to get some ideas.

Meditate. Mindfulness meditation involves focusing on the present moment without judgment. Although people often focus on a word or phrase (such as “peace”), it is also possible to focus on what you're grateful for (the warmth of the sun, a pleasant sound, etc.).

Stop comparing yourself to others.

You are a good person because of who you are, and the same goes for others. However competitive life seems, remember that we’re all going through life together, so we should make it enjoyable. Help friends and coworkers succeed. Celebrate victories and encourage others. Be happy for others and for yourself. You deserve it, and they do, too.
